MAYFIELD – The College of Wooster women's tennis team fell to St. Mary's College, 5-2, in a match played in Mayfield on Friday.
The Scots saw success in a pair of singles matches behind
Elizabeth Meiners and
Abby Williams in the No. 1 and No. 3 flights, respectively.
Williams gave Wooster its first point of the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sophia Pischalko, while Meiners held on for the two-set victory, 6-2, 7-5.
Wooster could not find much momentum in its other matches.
Sasha Riley had one of the better losing efforts in the No. 2 flight, falling 6-3, 6-3.
Lauren Richmond captured one less game in the No. 4 flight, falling 6-2, 6-3.
Jade Adkins took just one game at No. 5, losing 6-1, 6-0, and
Elyse Errington suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at the No. 6 slot.
In doubles play, Richmond and Williams teamed for Wooster's best result in a 6-4 loss at the No. 2 flight. Meiners and Riley fell 6-2 in the No. 1flight, while Adkins and
Willow Hernishin took a 6-3 defeat.
Saint Mary's improves to 6-1 with the win, while Wooster drops to 3-4. With the result, the Scots wrap up the first portion of their spring season with their next six games coming on its spring break trip, starting March 16.
