Henegar Scores Career High 17 at Denison

Scots Start Another Tough Stretch, Fall to No. 9 Big Red

The College of Wooster women's basketball team started its second three-game stint against ranked North Coast Athletic Conference opponents on Saturday, falling to ninth-ranked Denison University, 96-54.

Like their first meeting in January, which Denison took 88-47, the Big Red shot the ball well and was aggressive defensively. They forced a season-high turnover mark in their first contest and did the same on Saturday, forcing 32 Wooster turnovers.

Meanwhile, the Big Red shot 42 percent (31-74) from the floor, 34 percent (11-32) from deep and connected on 85 percent (23-27) of their free throw attempts.

Denison was led by a game-high 18 points from Abby Cooch, who went 5-of-10 from the floor with two 3-pointers made. Three others also reached double figures in scoring – Brooke Toigo (17), Adelyn Moore (14) and Ada Taute (10).

Wooster's turnovers created fewer opportunities on offense, but they still shot a respectable 37 percent (22-60) and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the foul line. Their 3-point shooting left a lot to be desired, making just one of their 15 attempts.

Denison outrebounded Wooster 45-32. Taute recorded eight rebounds, while Lynx Lander was one of four Scots to pull down four rebounds.

Wooster junior Abby Henegar scored a collegiate-high 17 points, going 7-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Mackenzie Riccitelli added 13 points, Ace Sturdivant scored six, Pink Sturdivant and Kylie Parsons each scored four.

Wooster never led in the game but had quality production in the fourth quarter, outscoring Denison 21-14. Henegar scored nine of her 17 in the final 10 minutes.

Denison (20-1) remains atop the NCAC with an 8-1 record, while Wooster falls to 10-11 on the year and 2-8 in conference play.

Next, Wooster hosts 11th-ranked John Carroll University on Wednesday, before a matchup with seventh-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University on Feb. 14.
