The
Rowan Pilon show was on display early and often, as the sophomore attacker scored three goals in the opening 3:21 and six goals overall in Saturday's 21-7 win over Otterbein University at Memorial Stadium.
Even more dominant was Wooster's (9-0) draw control until, as that ultimately factored heavily into Pilon being set up for the early scores. Wooster won the first 13 draw controls of the contest and 22 of the 28 on the day. Senior
Lizzie Hardy tracked down the opening one and once Wooster's offense settled in, first-year
Kylie MacMillan found Pilon for the game's first score 40 ticks into the contest.
Sophomore
Mizan Jacobs and senior
Sidney O'Rourke won Wooster's next two draw controls and the trio at the forefront of Wooster's consistent dominance in that facet of the game combined for 15 of the 22 on the afternoon. Jacobs went on to be the assister on Pilon's second goal, while the third one in the opening stretch was an unassisted tally.
The Fighting Scots scored the first eight goals of the second stanza to open a 15-1 lead. Pilon upped her scoring count to five with an unassisted score at the 10:24 mark of the second. SophomoreÂ
Cassidy Driscoll became the sixth different Scot to score on the afternoon with 9:07 to go before halftime, and senior
Sophia Mellis and first-year
Edi Fisher followed suit later in the period.
Otterbein had just four possessions during Wooster's eight-goal stretch in the second and they all ended in turnovers. MacMillan scooped up the groundball on the first, while first-year
Nicole McCalla kept Otterbein reeling with a caused turnover on the Cardinals' next possession. Driscoll's first of two caused turnovers of the afternoon ended another Cardinal possession that occurred during Wooster's 8-0 run.
Eight Scots scored in the non-conference rout. Senior
Brynne Snaguski and Mellis followed Pilon's six goals with three each. Multi-goal games came from the sticks of Fisher, Hardy, MacMillan, and senior
Priya Nehria. Driscoll and Jacobs passed out two assists each.
Hardy's seven draw controls were followed by Jacobs' six. Driscoll led Wooster with three of the Scots' 14 groundballs.
Leela Henry and
Madi McIntosh each scored twice for Otterbein. The Cardinals only had 13 turnovers due to the Scots' draw control dominance limiting Otterbein possessions.
In goal, junior
Audrey Richardson and sophomore
Taylor Noe combined for seven saves. A trio of Otterbein 'keepers combined for six saves, but Wooster scored on 21-of-29 shots in the game.
Wooster outshot Otterbein 29-24 and was a perfect 14-of-14 on clears.
Next, Wooster starts North Coast Athletic Conference play against No. 10 Denison University (8-1, 0-0 NCAC) on Friday, April 3. Opening draw at John P. Papp Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
