Wooster Finishes Non-Conference Slate Undefeated

Fighting Scots down Cardinals 21-7

The Rowan Pilon show was on display early and often, as the sophomore attacker scored three goals in the opening 3:21 and six goals overall in Saturday's 21-7 win over Otterbein University at Memorial Stadium.

Even more dominant was Wooster's (9-0) draw control until, as that ultimately factored heavily into Pilon being set up for the early scores. Wooster won the first 13 draw controls of the contest and 22 of the 28 on the day. Senior Lizzie Hardy tracked down the opening one and once Wooster's offense settled in, first-year Kylie MacMillan found Pilon for the game's first score 40 ticks into the contest.

Sophomore Mizan Jacobs and senior Sidney O'Rourke won Wooster's next two draw controls and the trio at the forefront of Wooster's consistent dominance in that facet of the game combined for 15 of the 22 on the afternoon. Jacobs went on to be the assister on Pilon's second goal, while the third one in the opening stretch was an unassisted tally.

The Fighting Scots scored the first eight goals of the second stanza to open a 15-1 lead. Pilon upped her scoring count to five with an unassisted score at the 10:24 mark of the second. Sophomore Cassidy Driscoll became the sixth different Scot to score on the afternoon with 9:07 to go before halftime, and senior Sophia Mellis and first-year Edi Fisher followed suit later in the period.

Otterbein had just four possessions during Wooster's eight-goal stretch in the second and they all ended in turnovers. MacMillan scooped up the groundball on the first, while first-year Nicole McCalla kept Otterbein reeling with a caused turnover on the Cardinals' next possession. Driscoll's first of two caused turnovers of the afternoon ended another Cardinal possession that occurred during Wooster's 8-0 run.

Eight Scots scored in the non-conference rout. Senior Brynne Snaguski and Mellis followed Pilon's six goals with three each. Multi-goal games came from the sticks of Fisher, Hardy, MacMillan, and senior Priya Nehria. Driscoll and Jacobs passed out two assists each.

Hardy's seven draw controls were followed by Jacobs' six. Driscoll led Wooster with three of the Scots' 14 groundballs.

Leela Henry and Madi McIntosh each scored twice for Otterbein. The Cardinals only had 13 turnovers due to the Scots' draw control dominance limiting Otterbein possessions.

In goal, junior Audrey Richardson and sophomore Taylor Noe combined for seven saves. A trio of Otterbein 'keepers combined for six saves, but Wooster scored on 21-of-29 shots in the game.

Wooster outshot Otterbein 29-24 and was a perfect 14-of-14 on clears.

Next, Wooster starts North Coast Athletic Conference play against No. 10 Denison University (8-1, 0-0 NCAC) on Friday, April 3. Opening draw at John P. Papp Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
