Sophomore
Jillian Meszaros threw Wooster's 10th ever no-hitter, and senior
Julia Jennings' game-winning hit tied the career hit record as The College of Wooster softball team swept Oberlin College in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Sunday.
In game one, Wooster won 8-0 in five innings and then took game two, 2-1, claiming their seventh straight victory.
In the opener, Meszaros faced the minimum through 10 batters before issuing her first walk in the bottom of the fourth.
After issuing the walk, Meszaros got two ground balls to the left side of the infield to keep her no-hitter intact through five. In the fifth, another three ground balls sealed the accomplishment and the win.
Meszaros did not let Oberlin hit a ball the outfield for the entire game. She struck out the side in the second and ended up striking out seven, which all came within those first 10 batters faced.
Wooster's last no-hitter came back in 2023 when
Rachael Dudziak went five innings in a win versus Asbury University.
Meanwhile, the offense was clicking with 13 hits and an opening four-run first inning. Wooster's RBI leader
Cate Barkdoll brought in the first run before an RBI double from first-year
Ella McCabe and a two-run blooper from
Addie Nichols made it 4-0.
Another first-year came through in the third inning when
Peyton Nicholson singled to right-center to score another two. Finally, Jennings doubled home another two runs to make it an 8-0 game in the fourth.
McCabe finished a perfect 3-for-3, while
Emma Hetkey went 3-for-4. Jennings and Nichols each finished with a pair of hits.
In game two, Wooster's offense slowed but Jennings came through in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie. Her two-out single to left field brought home the winning run, and it was her 166th career-hit, tying the program record.
Junior
Jasmine Mueller started the inning with a pinch-hit single up the middle.
Shaylynn Rogaski came in as the pinch-runner, stole second and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Meszaros to later score on Jennings' single.
Junior
Tori Conner pitched a solid game two, but she did not have the offense scoring like they did in game one.
Wooster started the scoring in the fourth thanks to an RBI single from
Sage Lammlein. Oberlin got the run back with the first batter in the bottom the fifth as
Maya Means hit a solo home run to left field.
Another hit in the inning pushed Conner out of the game and Meszaros was brought in from the bullpen. Meszaros got right back to work, pitching the final 2.2 innings for the win.
Oberlin finally got a hit off Meszaros in the seventh and had runners on first and second with one out before Meszaros struck one out and a grounder to third to ended the game.
Lammlein and McCabe each went 2-for-3 in the game, while Jennings went 2-for-4.
With the decision in both games, Meszaros moves to 8-1 with a 2.61 ERA on the year.
Meanwhile, with their seventh straight win Wooster moves to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC. Oberlin drops their fourth straight falling to 11-7 and 0-2 in the NCAC.
Next up, Wooster will get a break from conference play with a trip to Otterbein University on Thursday.
