Evie Sanford was in action on Saturday at Ohio Northern University's Polar Bear Final Qualifier trying to secure a spot in next week's NCAA Div. III Championships.
Sanford unfortunately came up short, as her best attempt on the day was 42 feet, 0.5 inch. The senior's season-best of 43 feet, 5 inches won her a third North Coast Athletic Conference indoor shot put title last week. Sanford improved upon her school record with that mark, which ranks in the top-40 nationally.
Sanford needed a top-20 national mark to qualify for nationals. As of article posting time, that would have required a throw of at least 44 feet, 7 inches.
Sanford will turn her attention to trying to qualify for the outdoor championships, as outdoor season starts in two weeks for the Fighting Scots.
