Senior first baseman
Ryan Kramer is now a top-10 College of Wooster baseball home run hitter after blasting two in Sunday's 5-3 senior day win over Muskingum University.
Kramer's 35th collegiate homer was a no-doubt-about-it two-run shot well over Art Murray Field's left field fence, and it put Wooster up 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. He has the most homers by a Wooster great since
Pat Christensen clubbed 38 from 2005 through 2008.
In the third inning, Kramer went the opposite way for his third homer of the week. It marked his career-high 11th on the year. Both times Kramer went deep, junior third baseman
Zack Barienbrock doubled at batter prior. In the fifth, Barienbrock's second double of the day plated first-year shortstop
Noah Lindberg, who legged out a one-out double to right center.
Muskingum pulled within 2-1 in the fourth inning when
Sam Palmieri rode the wind stream to a mammoth solo homer to left field.
Defensively, senior
Colin Leslie was at it again, picking off his ninth runner in the seventh inning.
Josh Beavon missed the memo on the scouting report and strayed too far from second after leading off the inning with a single. Earlier,
Grant Mellerson decided to roll the dice in the third inning, attempting to steal second off Leslie, who threw out his 16th base stealer in 28 attempts.
Barienbrock and Kramer accounted for most of the punch from the lineup, going a combined 5-for-8 with five RBI and four runs scored. Junior designated hitter
Koa Siu and Lindberg had Wooster's other two hits.
Senior
Devin Anthony started and is now 1-0 after allowing a run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings. Sophomore
James MacMillan followed with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Junior
Constantine Vernadakis recorded the final five outs, including setting Muskingum down in order in the ninth for save three of the year.
Senior
Cooper Baer and first-year
Henry Rouch also contributed on the bump in the pitching staff's five-hitter. Palmieri's solo homer was the lone Muskingum hit for extra bases.
Zander Roades started for Muskingum and is now 1-2 after allowing five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Wooster is now 20-10, while Muskingum fell to 11-17.     Â
Next, Wooster hosts Capital University (15-12) on Wednesday, April 15 at 4 p.m. The game is the program's faculty appreciation game.
