The College of Wooster outdoor track and field teams saw one school record fall at the Duane Gomez Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College.
Senior
Evie Sanford became the second Fighting Scot to take down a school record this outdoor season and it was one that already had her name on it. The senior launched a toss of 133 feet, 4 inches, besting her previous mark from three seasons ago by over a foot and placing fifth in the event.
Sanford had a stellar day across all three of her events as she was also the runner-up in the shot put with an outdoor season-best 41 feet, 4.25 inches and fourth in the hammer throw with a career-best 136 feet, 8 inches. That hammer mark jumps her from fifth to third in program history.
The Scots dominated the jumps with two event wins between junior
Claire Davis and sophomore
Francis Nwokonko. Davis captured the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 5.75 inches, while Nwokonko won the long jump with a career-best 21 feet, 8.75 inches.
Davis and Nwokonko both translated their success in the field over to the track as well. Davis took on the 100-meter hurdle event for the first time in her career and finished fifth in 16.98. Nwokonko put up a career-best 15.34 in the 110-meter hurdles to place third and make a five-way tie for ninth place in Wooster's event history.
Senior
Rob Mays III continued to be a mainstay on the hammer throw podium, this time with a toss of 162 feet even en route to a runner-up finish.
Six Scots posted career-bests, especially in the later afternoon track events. Sophomore
Andrew Rombach and junior
Nick Schade absolutely shattered their career bests in the 5,000-meter run with times of 16:37.05 and 16:37.64 to place seventh and eighth, respectively.
Senior
Joe Ahmann also had a standout performance with 2:03.87 in the 800-meter run, which proved to be a career-best by several seconds for the senior. Senior
Reese Johnson was the top finishing Scot in that event with fifth place in 2:00.38. Junior
Cooper Norwell took seventh in the 200 meters in a career-best 23.10.
On the women's side, senior
Amy Gabrovsek continues to improve upon her top 400 meters time after posting a career-best 1:02.07 to finish fifth. Junior
Ellie Fox was not far behind Gabrovsek in seventh place in 1:04.37. Fox did have a career-best of her own in the long jump with a top leap of 16 feet, 3.25 inches for eighth. Sophomore
Elizabeth Theobald had to battle the elements in the javelin throw but managed a fifth-place finish with a toss of 96 feet, 2 inches on her final attempt.
Senior
Anaya Brady lined up for her first career 400-meter hurdle event and finished seventh in 1:15.68. First-year
Aubrey Duggan placed fifth in the 800 meters in 2:41.06.
Elsewhere, sophomore
Basil Keck went 10:33.17 for sixth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and fellow sophomore
Franklin Adu-Baah posted 11.21 for seventh place in the 100-meter dash.
Wooster's men and women both placed sixth in the field. Ohio Wesleyan University swept the team titles.
Wooster will have its final tune up before the NCAC Championships at the Denison University Invitational on Friday, April 24.
