Scots Compete With Ranked Raiders

Softball falls in two close games

The College of Wooster softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 17 University of Mount Union on Sunday, 5-2 and 2-0.

After Mount Union got an early run in the first inning of game one, Wooster took the lead in the third behind a two-run single from senior Cate Barkdoll. Yet, that would be the only scoring of the day for the Scots.

Mount Union used a three-run fourth to retake the lead, ending with a two-run double from Faith Reicosky to make it a 4-2 game.

Mount Union faced the minimum of three batters in three of the final four innings. Wooster got a runner to second with one out in the sixth but could not advance the runner any further.

Barkdoll finished 2-for-3 to lead the Scots offensively. Tori Conner, Sage Lammlein and Julia Jennings each recorded a hit as well.

Conner threw five innings to take the loss. Kaitlyn Hale threw one inning of scoreless relief.

In game two, Wooster collected just three hits behind Emma Reemsnyder's complete game. Jillian Meszaros had a solid outing as well, throwing all six innings and allowing just four hits and two runs, both unearned.

Mount Union's two runs came around to score in the first inning. The Purple Raiders used an infield error, a pair of sacrifice bunts, one hit and a wild pitch to manufacture their scoring.

For Wooster, Jennings, Jasmine Mueller and Emma Hetkey each collected a hit in the game.

Mount Union moves to 23-5, while Wooster falls back to .500 at 14-14.

The Scots return to conference play Tuesday with a home doubleheader versus John Carroll University.
