The College of Wooster track and field team won nine events and had a number of collegiate-bests at Friday's non-scoring Denison University Invitational.
Sophomore
Francis Nwokonko's triple-winner status was a perfect build up to next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. Nwokonko captured first in the long jump (20 feet, 10.75 inches), triple jump (42 feet, 3.5 inches) and 110-meter hurdles (15.45).
On the women's side, senior
Evie Sanford was just as impressive with a pair of first-place efforts, which were both noteworthy. Sanford's collegiate-best of 145 feet, 9 inches in the hammer throw is the second-best mark in program history, trailing All-America alumna
Ainsley Wiesner's 176 feet, 2 inches. Sanford's winning shot put of 41 feet, 9.75 inches was a season-best, and the senior went 122 feet, 5 inches for fifth in the discus.
Wooster first-years
Max Kollhoff and
Aubrey Duggan made it a Fighting Scots' sweep in the 800 meters, and both posted new collegiate-bests en route to the blue ribbon. Kollhoff ran a 1:57.22, while Duggan came in at 2:34.90.
Senior
Rob Mays III's 144 feet, 11 inches was the top mark in the men's discus and a collegiate-best. The top individual efforts continued in the high jump, where senior
Essaie Mezmur upped the top crossbar clearance to 6 feet, 3.5 inches to top Friday's field.
Elsewhere, Wooster's All-Ohio 4x100 relay quartet of junior
William Harris II, sophomore
Franklin Adu-Baah, junior
Cooper Norwell, and sophomore
Dasebre Ofosu-Manu went 42.12 for second, with that time just shy of their 42.08 from the All-Ohio Championships. Junior
Zephan Deal's 5 feet, 9.75 inches was second in the high jump, as was senior
Anaya Brady, junior
Claire Davis, junior
Ellie Fox, and Duggan's 4:23.61 in the 4x400 relay.
Senior
Izzy Cozzie logged the top time by a Scot this spring in the 200 meters, clocking a 25.56 for third. Brady's season-best 1:14.39 was third in the 400-meter hurdles and is the top time by a Scot in the event for the season. Junior
Elizabeth Theobald placed third in the javelin (102 feet, 2 inches), as did senior
Sylvia Direnzo in the 3,000 meters (13:11.44). Davis' 17.04, which was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, rounded out the women's top-five finishes.
On the men's side junior
Yann Kariningufu posted top-five efforts in the 400 meters (56.10, third) and the long jump (19 feet, fourth). Senior
Anthony Gomes measured 39 feet, 4 inches for third in the triple jump and Deal, senior
Khaleel Manderson, Ofosu-Manu, and sophomore
Gabriel Jones raced to the third-place time of 3:43.29 in the 4x400 relay. Harris Jr.'s 18 feet, 5 inches was fifth in the long jump, as was sophomore
Andrew Rombach's collegiate-best of 9:31.88 in the 3,000 meters.
Next, Wooster competes in the NCAC Championships, held May 1-2 at Kenyon College. Junior
Kylie Parsons will get a jump on the meet as the Scots' entry in the NCAC heptathlon, which takes place Saturday and Sunday at Denison.
