Scots Claim First NCAC Title Since 2004

Facing must-win, Wooster downs Kenyon 13-6

The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team needed to win on Saturday and did just that, capturing a share of the North Coast Athletic Conference title after a 13-6 win over Kenyon College on Saturday.

Wooster forced a historic five-way tie for the title, sharing it with Kenyon, Denison University, Oberlin College and Ohio Wesleyan University. The win even knocked Kenyon out of the upcoming NCAC Tournament, despite their co-champion status.

It's Wooster's second overall conference title and its first since 2004.

After a close first half in which Wooster led 4-3, the Scots showed their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Owls 9-3. In fact, after Owen Thompson scored a man up to open the third, Kenyon got two back to tie the game at 5-5.

Wooster then rallied to score five unanswered, with Lane Kellogg scoring to start the run and then assisting on the next to Sam Green, who scored the second of Wooster's man up goals.

Ian Marsland got on the board to make it a 8-5 game before Jack Holub connected on back-to-back scores to make it 10-5 early in the fourth.

Kenyon got one back before it was Kellogg's turn to score back-to-back goals with the final punch from Will Crane, scoring with 3:21 remaining.

Kellogg led the game with four goals. Holub finished with three and Luke Budd finished with two after scoring Wooster's first two of the game.

Domenic Cuda, had five ground balls and Grady Harban and Luke Peter had three. Cuda's five caused turnovers gives him 89 on the year, three more than Casey Steffen's (2023) school record. Cuda now has the third-most caused turnovers in NCAA Div. III history.

Sophomore Case Lowery had perhaps his best game in net for the Scots, making a career-high 19 saves. Kenyon (10-7, 6-2 NCAC) amassed 51 shots with 23 on goal, while Wooster took just 32 with 20 on goal.

Wooster (12-5, 6-2 NCAC) did not commit a penalty, while scoring on two man-up opportunities in the third.

The Scots will prepare for the NCAC Tournament as the fourth seed with a trip to No. 1 seed Oberlin for a 7 p.m. semifinal matchup. Wooster took the prior meeting at Papp Stadium, 12-11.
