Scots Battle Until The End Against Ninth-Ranked York

Women's lacrosse exits NCAA Tournament with 14-7 loss

Post Game Presser - Sunday

YORK, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team saw its run in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championships come to an end on Sunday falling to host and ninth-ranked York College of Pennsylvania, 14-7.

Wooster ran the gauntlet on Sunday, finding spurts of success and setbacks, but they battled with York until the end, even giving them a shock in the final quarter by opening with three consecutive goals.

In that span, Wooster got two goals from senior Brynne Snaguski and another from sophomore Rowan PilonIt got them to within four scores with 6:56 remaining.

Pilon's score forced a timeout from the York bench, and that followed with a response of three goals in three minutes, putting the chances of a comeback at bay.

Wooster trailed 8-4 at halftime and had to work double as hard in the final 15 minutes after being shutout in the third quarter with York growing its lead to 11-4.

The 1-0 first quarter showed Wooster could keep up with the ninth-ranked team. Turnovers hurt the Scots despite finding success with the draw control. They turned it over on their first three possessions, while York scored its first goal just over three minutes into the contest.

Despite the offense stalling, which included eight first quarter turnovers, Wooster's defense and keeper Audrey Richardson kept the game close, fending off 12 shots with Richardson making eight saves.

Richardson ended the game with a career-high 17 saves.

Wooster broke through in the early goings of the second quarter with a score from senior Lizzie Hardy. However, York started to see its offensive chances find the back of the net as well.

York (16-4) scored twice before Snaguski scored with 10:39 left in the second quarter to cut York's lead to 3-2. After another two goals from the Spartans, Wooster took advantage of a player-up opportunity with Hardy's second goal to make it  5-3.

York rattled together three more goals in a quarter in which they took 17 shots, 10 on goal, but Wooster got the final score heading into halftime thanks to a free-position shot from Cassidy Driscoll

Snaguski led the way with three goals and claimed the program's top spot for goals in a  single season 62. Her three points gave her 77 on the season, which ties her for sixth.

Mizan Jacobs found success with her draw control game, finishing with a team-high four. Kylie MacMillan and Nicole McCalla each forced a pair of caused turnovers to lead the team.

Pilon, who broke the single season assist record last game, sits at 45 after one assist on Sunday.

Hardy's two points put her in a tie for 10th with 74. Her three groundballs move her to 66 for fourth and her two draw controls improves her draw control record at 132, which she broke last game.

For career records, Hardy tops the draw control list at 411, sits second with 211 groundballs and her 94 caused turnovers puts her just outside the top eight.

Snaguski is tied for eighth with 152 goals, the sophomore Pilon just is 11th with 53 assists, and the senior Sidney O'Rourke, who had three draw controls Sunday, is at 261 for fourth.

Wooster concludes the year at 17-3, the second consecutive year they have reached that mark, tying the win record which they set a year ago.
