The College of Wooster volleyball team led as late as 21-20 in the fourth set, but the Fighting Scots bid at reverse sweeping Nazareth University was quickly halted. The Golden Flyers topped the Scots 25-19, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22 at Case Western Reserve University's Horsburgh Gymnasium on Friday afternoon.

Trailing two sets, Wooster rallied early in the third frame to take a 4-1 lead. Sophomores Kennedy Muhlenkamp and Tamarra Talbert doubled up Nazareth's Sloane Bell for a block to start the Scots' early 4-0 run. Next, sophomore Evelyn Hackney's kill at 7-6 gave Wooster a lead that was not relinquished the rest of the set. Wooster's lead hit four for the first time at 12-8 when senior Natalie Hohman served up an ace.

Back-to-back Hackney kills followed a Nazareth service error, with the 3-0 stretch upping Wooster's lead to 18-14. Talbert connected on a kill, and another misfire from the Golden Flyers at the service line put Wooster's lead back to four at 21-17 and 22-18, respectively. Muhlenkamp added Wooster to the board in the sets won column with kill three of the frame.

Wooster led 21-20 in the fourth on a Nazareth attack error before Leah Fusilli finished a swing to tie the frame at 21. Wooster tied the fourth at 22 on Alana Lucey's serve error, but Macy Quibell had her teammate's back with her eighth kill of the afternoon to hand the lead right back to Nazareth.

Earlier in the match, Wooster was within 19-16 in the first, thanks to the play of sophomore Ireland Oswick, who put away kills on consecutive points during Wooster's 4-0 run. Muhlenkamp's ace gave Wooster a look at set point in the second frame. Nazareth's Lorianna Mattutat and Fusilli responded with back-to-back kills to swing set point the way of the Golden Flyers.

Oswick led Wooster with eight kills. Muhlenkamp and sophomore Caitlin Walsh-Knouff were right behind with seven each. Junior Catherine Muzilla's 19 digs led three Scots in double figures. Muhlenkamp finished three kills shy of a triple-double, hitting the double-double marker with 25 assists and 14 digs.

Fusilli had the hot hand for Nazareth, hitting .342 and tallying 18 markers in the kills column. She added 13 digs, four behind libero Gretchen Klossner for the team high.

Nazareth (1-1) hit .212 for the match. Wooster (3-4) hit .127.

Next, Wooster hosts the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic on Friday, September 18. The action kicks off with a 2:30 p.m. match against Bluffton University (4-2).
