The College of Wooster volleyball team battled undefeated Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday but fell short in four sets, 21-25, 28-26, 25-7, 25-21.
 
Sophomore Caitlin Walsh-Knouff had some explosive hits, leading the team with 13 kills. Junior Catherine Muzilla added a match-high 22 digs against an impressive Yellow Jacket front line, while sophomore Kennedy Muhlenkamp added a match-high 37 assists.
 
Baldwin Wallace (12-0) was led by a 15-kill performance from Lyla Nash and a 14-kill tally from Lexi Smith. Two others tallied nine kills, and Anna Stankard contributed 26 assists.
 
Wooster (3-7) was on point in the first set, taking the Yellow Jackets by surprise with a 6-3 start that only expanded to 13-7 after four straight points. Baldwin Wallace got within two late at 22-20 before Wooster distance themselves with two straight points. Kora Burill's kill solidified the set.
 
Set two was a back-and-forth affair with 14 ties and seven lead changes. When Baldwin Wallace started to break free midway through, Wooster rallied for a 7-1 run to pull ahead 18-15. 
 
Unfortunately, Baldwin Wallace fought back, and the teams found themselves going back and forth until the end of the set, which culminated in the Yellow Jackets winning 28-26.
 
It also gave Baldwin Wallace plenty of momentum heading into a dominating set three. They opened the frame with a 12-2 start before Wooster went to the bench and got a pair of kills from Ireland Oswick.
 
However, Baldwin Wallace's run continued, taking the set 25-7.
 
Wooster got back to form in the fourth set as the teams matched each other throughout the set. The Scots held a slight lead early at 3-2, stayed close but never regained it.
 
The teams tied at 13 before Baldwin Wallace had a pair of 3-0 runs to pull away for the match.
 
Next, Wooster will get its first taste of North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday when they welcome Kenyon College to Timken Gymnasium.
