Oswick, Blocks Engineer Reverse Sweep at Timken

Wooster downs defending USCAA Div. II national runner-up

Sophomore Ireland Oswick's breakout match and timely blocks from multiple College of Wooster volleyball players enabled the Fighting Scots to reverse sweep Kent State University – Tuscarawas 21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-13 on Monday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Sophomores Kennedy Muhlenkamp and Tamarra Talbert sealed up the net on Tuscarawas in the third, with each having three blocks in the frame. They teamed up to stop Allie Snyder at 3-3 and 20-15. Talbert's third block of the set came with Oswick assisting on set point, while senior Kora Burill was in on the double block with Muhlenkamp on Morgan Schlabach to make it 12-8 Wooster. Two of Oswick's four set-three kills came during a key 7-0 Wooster run that included an ace served up by senior Natalie Hohman.

In the fourth, it was more Oswick and blocks. Seven of Oswick's career-high 18 kills came in set four, while junior MC Werth took the lead at the net, getting in on all three Wooster blocks in the frame, two with Burill and one with Talbert. Wooster roared back, overcoming a 15-9 deficit by outscoring Tuscarawas 16-8 the rest of the frame. A Talbert and Werth block pulled Wooster within three at 17-14. The double block from Burill and Werth on Schlabach tied the frame at 21, then the Golden Eagles' star attacker sent one long to give Wooster its first lead of the fourth since 1-0. Oswick followed with two kills down the stretch, and a dump on the second touch by sophomore setter Kennedy Muhlenkamp tied the match at two.

Sophomore Caitlin Walsh-Knouff's sixth kill of the night broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth, and Wooster never relinquished the lead the rest of the contest. Burill and Muhlenkamp stopped Schlabach at 12-9 for Wooster's 10th and final block of the evening. Talbert's fifth kill of the night made it match point for Wooster, which capped the reverse sweep with a kill from Walsh-Knouff.

Earlier, Tuscarawas had the service game working, tucking several aces into the back right corner in the first two sets. Wooster shored up its serve receive, only allowing five aces over the final three sets of the match.

Oswick hit .429 for the match and added a dig and block to the career-high 18 kills. First-year Claire Buchholz followed with nine kills and helped Wooster hit nearly 100 percentage points better than Tuscarawas for the match, with the Scots posting a .180 clip on the night. Muhlenkamp passed out 47 assists to go with five blocks. Burill led the charge up front, getting in on six of Wooster's 10 blocks on the night. Junior Catherine Muzilla set a career-high with 34 digs.

Schlabach led all players with 24 kills, however she had 15 attack errors. As a team, the Golden Eagles logged 37 attack errors on the night, including 27 non-blocked ones. Snyder added 14 kills and a match-high four aces.

Wooster is now 5-7 on the year. Tuscarawas, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Div. II national runner-up in 2025, is now 14-2.

Next, Wooster plays a tri-match at Geneva College on Friday, October 2. The action starts at 5:30 p.m. against Saint Francis University (Pennsylvania) (5-6).
