Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Severs Scores First Career Goal in Loss to No. 25 DePauw

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's soccer team played No. 25 ranked DePauw University tough for 45 minutes, but two goals early in the second half allowed the Tigers some breathing room en route to a 4-1 triumph in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference tilt at a windy Carl Dale Field.

DePauw (11-2, 5-1 NCAC) scored a single goal during the first half when Sam Meyer rebounded a shot in near the left post during the 18th minute.

That was all of the scoring until 4:40 into the second when Meyer got free again. This time, his first shot from about eight yards out was stopped on a diving play by 'keeper Taylor Takacs, but Meyer stayed with it and fired again and the ball glanced off Takacs, who was airborne again, before settling inside the left post to make it 2-0.

Just over three minutes later, the Tigers were on the attack again and Wooster (4-7-1, 0-5-0 NCAC) was whistled for a foul inside the box. Ryan Keefe converted the penalty kick for a 3-0 cushion.

DePauw would add another goal, but it was the Fighting Scots who may have had the most impressive score of the day. On a throw in, Zach Jergan delivered the ball to Noah Wagemann in the box, who in turn headed it to Luke Koniarczyk, who used his head to direct it to Evan Severs about 10 yards outside the top of the box. The junior defender then blasted a shot into the net for his first career goal.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for Wooster, as next is a trip to No. 6 Ohio Wesleyan University (13-1, 5-0 NCAC) Wednesday night.
