Jonathon Fox scored in dramatic fashion, giving The College of Wooster a 1-0 victory against Marietta College when he netted a goal with less than three minutes remaining in double overtime during a Friday afternoon neutral-site, non-conference affair, held at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
The teams appeared to be headed towards a scoreless draw until Fox, a senior who plays primarily on the defensive end, broke through for the second goal of his career with just 2:40 left on the clock. It came on Wooster's (3-2) first shot of the second overtime.
During regulation, defense took center stage. Each team attempted nine shots in the first 45 minutes and three in the second to no avail, as goalies Taylor Takacs of the Fighting Scots and Chris Stollar for Marietta (1-3) kept the offense's off the board.
The Pioneers had the slight edge in the first extra session with two shots to Wooster's one, but Takacs produced his fifth and final save of the day to keep the game going.
The Scots will again be on the Kenyon campus Sunday for a neutral-site match-up with Heidelberg University at 1 p.m.
