David Mallett scored the first goal of his career, which was enough for The College of Wooster to get past Transylvania University 1-0 in a men's soccer match-up that took place at Marietta, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon.
It was an impressive victory for Wooster (2-0), as Transylvania (1-1) was part of the field in the 2010 NCAA Div. III Men's Soccer Championships.
Mallett, a junior defender, converted a corner kick from Jonathon Fox early in 49th minute, and that held up as the match's lone score. Mallett is in his second season as a starter, but rarely gets scoring opportunities since he spends most of the time in the defensive half, but on Sunday, he put two attempts on goal, both on corners, early in the second half and the second found its mark.
For Fox, it marked his second assist in as many days.
Wooster's defense, after yielding two goals Saturday, shut down the Pioneers, limiting them to seven shots. Taylor Takacs was credited with two saves in the shutout.
The Scots return to action at Bethany College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
