Scots Force Another Overtime Game but Fall to Tigers 2-1

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- A header directly off a corner kick in the 95th minute gave The College of Wooster men's soccer team its first loss in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday in a 2-1 overtime defeat against DePauw University.

It was Wooster's second conference game this year and the second that went to overtime after tying Wabash College 1-1 last Saturday.

DePauw's Flynn Sheehan took the corner kick and placed the ball squarely on the head of Alec McCarty, who proceeded to direct the ball squarely into goal.

After both teams entered halftime scoreless, DePauw struck first in the second half but the Scots did not trail for long.

For DePauw's goal, Wooster sophomore keeper Jason Prather found himself out of position, and senior BJ Tally was able to stop a shot with a team save, but DePauw's Sheehan followed up his own shot to connect in the 55th minute.

That lead lasted for just seven minutes, as junior Moody Saadi took it upon himself with a couple of dribble moves on the far-left side of the penalty box and connected on a shot for the score in the 62nd minute. It was his first of the year and second of his collegiate career.

DePauw made a final push toward the end of regulation, but Prather made a diving one handed save to prevent a goal with just under 40 seconds remaining.

DePauw's goal in overtime was the only shot in extra time as the Tigers held the shot advantage the game 10-8. Wooster had five corner kicks to DePauw's two.

Prather made four saves, while his counterpart Alex Lundin made three.

DePauw captures its first NCAC win and improves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC. Wooster drops to 6-4-1 and 0-1-1 in NCAC play.

The Scots will look for its first NCAC win next weekend when they host Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.
