UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The College of Wooster women's soccer team tied John Carroll University late but let another goal through, dropping its second North Coast Athletic Conference game in a 2-1 loss on Saturday.
Sophomore
Caitlin Martin scored the equalizer in the 70th minute off the double assist from
Kelsey Maley and
Julia Struck. Maley threw the ball in and Struck directed the ball to Martin, who lobbed a shot out of reach of the John Carroll keeper.
The two teams played even for the next 12 minutes until John Carroll got deep into Wooster territory and connected on the game winner. John Carroll put the ball into play off a corner kick and after some repositioning in the box,
Kathryn Shaffer's shot went left and into the back of the goal.
Wooster took a couple shots in the final minutes of the game and had a corner kick with 10 seconds remaining, but none of those opportunities came to fruition.
John Carroll played with the lead for much of the game, opening scoring in the fourth minute via a goal from
Emily Patrzyk. It was another situation where John Carroll got deep enough into Wooster's territory to find the score.
John Carroll outshot Wooster 9-6 and held the corner kick advantage 4-2. Junior keeper
Lucy Carlin made a game-high four saves.
