Jordan Lewis beat the John Carroll University cornerback covering him for an 80-yard touchdown in the first quarter, but the 13th-ranked Blue Streaks dominated The College of Wooster football team outside of that play, winning 66-7 on Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
Wooster junior quarterback
Michael Boyle delivered a perfect throw to Lewis down the left sideline on a third-and-15 snap with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter. The perfect throw enabled Lewis to stay far enough ahead of the Blue Streaks' corner for the 80-yard score. It marked the Scots' longest play of the year, coming in at a yard longer than the duo's touchdown pass against Saint Vincent College back on Sept. 13.
John Carroll's defense held Wooster to 83 yards outside of the Boyle-to-Lewis touchdown pass. Offensively, the Blue Streaks found success running the ball, averaging 8.0 yards over 47 carries. That helped open the passing game, where John Carroll went 17-of-20 for 255 yards.
Wooster was within 14-7 following Lewis' touchdown.
Keller Moten answered with a 6-yard touchdown run that made it 21-7 with eight seconds to go in the first quarter. John Carroll grew its lead to 42-7 by halftime and 56-7 by the end of the third quarter.
