The College of Wooster football team's seniors scored five touchdowns and junior quarterback
Michael Boyle tied the program's single-game record with six passing touchdowns in Saturday's 49-6 rout of Kenyon College at John P. Papp Stadium.
Wooster (5-4, 4-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) broke the game wide open with a 35-point second quarter. Senior wideout
Tate Journell twice turned on the afterburners, leaving Kenyon's (1-7, 1-5) secondary in the dust en route to 68- and 55-yard touchdown receptions. Journell's 11th touchdown reception of the year put the Scots up 21-0 following the extra-point kick by first-year
Nolan Hendricks at the 9:16 mark. Journell's 11 touchdown receptions are the fourth-most in single-season program history, and for the first time ever, Wooster wideouts have back-to-back seasons with double-digit touchdown receptions, as alumnus
Brazos Gadler had a dozen in 2024.
The passing game was just getting started in the sizzling department, as senior
Jordan Lewis reached around the helmet of an Owl in the end zone to secure his 29-yard touchdown reception with 5:48 on the second-quarter clock. Sophomore wide receiver
Cam Crago had Wooster's fifth touchdown reception, with his going in the books from 77 yards out with 1:53 remaining in the second.
While the Scots were scoring at will in the passing department, Wooster's defense was just as busy celebrating its seniors. Defensive back
Louie Lindsay picked off
Drew Morgan and ran the return back 73 yards for a pick six near the midpoint of the second quarter. Junior linebacker
Christian Kring started Wooster's latest goal-line stand just before halftime. Kring brought down
Ryan Dean at the 1-yard line. Following a spike to stop the clock, the Owls had time for one play, as only three seconds remained. Senior defensive back
Brock Sivon and junior defensive lineman
Quan Russell teamed up to stuff
Julius Thompson's rush up the middle as time expired at the goal line. After the officials huddled, they deemed the Owls' running back short of the end zone, thus preserving the shutout bid for the time being.
Boyle tied alumnus
Mateo Renteria's single-game program record with his sixth passing touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter. Wooster went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Boyle bought time with his feet, enabling Lewis to pop open for his second receiving touchdown of the game.
Kenyon scored its touchdown when
Tyler Gladden caught a 29-yard pass with 6:22 on the third-quarter clock.
Boyle's career day saw the junior complete 17-of-30 passes for a career-high 430 yards and six touchdowns. Of note, the 430 yards are the fifth-most in single-game program history and it is the 11th 400-yard passing game in program history.
Three players – Lewis, Journell, and Crago – had over 100 yards receiving on the day. Lewis led the trio with 165 yards on seven catches. Journell had 135 yards on three receptions, while Crago needed just three receptions to get to 105 yards.
Sivon had the game-high in tackles with 13. He was followed by senior
Nick Bostic, who had five tackles, including a nine-yard sack in the second half.
Dean went 14-of-31 for 210 yards and a touchdown in relief of injured starter Morgan. Gladden was the standout receiver, with 110 yards on seven catches. Kenyon rushed for 150 yards, spreading the carries out among five primary running backs.
Sam Finnerty had seven tackles to lead Kenyon.
Michael Kerr had 2.5 tackles for loss as part of his six-tackle afternoon.
Next, Wooster concludes the regular season at No. 15 DePauw University (7-1, 5-1 NCAC) on Saturday, Nov. 8. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
