The College of Wooster men's soccer team hosted its North Coast Athletic Conference home finale on Wednesday and suffered its first loss, 4-0, versus Kenyon College.
Despite Wooster outshooting the Owls 17-9, Kenyon made the most of their opportunities, scoring three of their goals off corner kick opportunities. That's how the first goal transpired in the sixth minute thanks to a rebounded score fromÂ
Ethan Castaneda.
Wooster kept the Owls (6-3-7, 2-2-3 NCAC) at bay, only trailing 1-0 at halftime. However, Kenyon stayed persistent in the second half to up their lead.
Another corner kick in the 58th minute led to another scramble in front of the net only forÂ
Robbie Stroebel to lace the score through the traffic.
Kenyon scored again off another corner in the 73rd minute. The ball found its way through and to the foot ofÂ
Jack Commadeur, who scored his fourth of the year.
Finally, a foul in the box gaveÂ
James Paden the penalty goal in the 80th minute.
Kenyon was highly efficient on corners, having just four in the game. Meanwhile, Wooster had 10 opportunities but could not find the back of the goal.Â
Kenyon keeperÂ
Dominic Pratt collected seven saves in the win.
Wooster (11-1-5, 3-1-3 NCAC) was looking for its first win over the Owls since 2007. Kenyon leads the all-time series 32-31-4
The men's soccer team wraps up its regular season with a trip to Wittenberg University on Saturday. Three additional NCAC matches are slated for Wednesday night, but the Scots are still in the race for the conference tournament, currently positioned in third with 12 points.
