The College of Wooster women's soccer team got its first taste of North Coast Athletic Conference play on the road on Saturday but took a 1-0 loss to Kenyon College.
Â
Both teams played to a scoreless first half, despite pressure early on from the Scots. Wooster had back-to-back opportunities within the first 10 minutes.
Â
First, a cross byÂ
Charlotte Sefcik just missed a slidingÂ
Julia Struck – 8 minutes in. Later, Struck had another opportunity following Wooster's lone corner kick but her first shot was saved.
Â
Kenyon came out of halftime to make it a 1-0 game just minutes into the second half.
Â
Kenyon's goal came via a header fromÂ
Julianna Granetzke.Â
Brooke Heis sent the ball into the box which brought Wooster goalkeeperÂ
Lucy Carlin out, but Granetzke got to the ball first.
Â
The goal was the only difference in what was an evenly contested matchup. Both teams took 11 shots. Carlin ended with four saves, while her counterpart,Â
Ariel Kite, made just one save.
Â
The loss breaks a three-game win streak for Wooster who moves to 8-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. Kenyon moves to 7-1-3 and 1-0 in conference play.
Â
Next, Wooster will travel to John Carroll University on Saturday for its first matchup against the Blue Streaks in NCAC play.
