Izzy Cozzie led The College of Wooster volleyball team in three categories on Saturday as North Coast Athletic Conference play wrapped up with a home contest with John Carroll University.
The Blue Streaks took the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) to solidify a second-place finish within the NCAC.
Cozzie led Wooster in kills (9), blocks (5) and digs (10). First-year
Kennedy Muhlenkamp led Wooster with 14 assists, while
Kora Burill and
Erin Ellis each added a pair of aces.
Meanwhile, John Carroll (17-8, 6-1 NCAC) had
Natalie Glowe record 11 kills, Tess
Humphrey record 16 assists and
Olivia Mogyordy with 12 assists.
John Carroll used a 7-point swing to take an early 9-2 lead in the first set, which Wooster could never recover from despite a nice finish to the end of the set.
In set two, John Carroll jumped out early again, but Wooster scored four in a row to make it 8-8. However, that started another seven-point run for the Blue Streaks, taking a 15-8 lead.
Wooster got four back to make it 18-15 with Ellis on the serve. Wooster got even closer at 20-18 behind a pair of kills from Burill but could not cut the deficit further.
In set three, John Carroll had another strong start, jumping ahead 5-0 then 11-3. Wooster was again better late, getting as close as 23-19 late before the Blue Streaks took the match.
Wooster (5-19, 1-6 NCAC) wraps up the season with two matches next week. They travel to Wilmington College on Wednesday and then host Case Western Reserve University on Saturday for senior day.
