Cozzie Logs Midweek Double-Double

Wooster drops road tilt at Wilmington

Izzy Cozzie started her senior week off with a double-double in The College of Wooster volleyball team's 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 loss at Wilmington College on Wednesday evening.

The Fighting Scots' lone senior posted a team-high 10 kills to go with her 11 digs, with the digs trailing sophomore libero Catherine Muzilla's 18 for team-high honors. Junior Jordan Laraway followed Cozzie with eight kills.

Wilmington struggled to connect on the attack late in the second set, giving Wooster a chance to even the match at one set each. Three straight Wilmington attack errors gave Wooster a 23-22 lead. However, Wilmington quickly got serve back on a kill from Aubrey Clark, then Wooster could not get going, with consecutive Scots' attack errors winning the set for the hosts. Half of Cozzie's 10 kills came in set two.

A Laraway kill tied set three at 11, and Wooster went up two when first-year Erin Ellis served up an ace. Wooster's last lead came at 14-13 on a Wilmington service error before the hosts went on a 5-1 stretch to seize control.

Earlier, both teams were off to a strong start in the attacking department, as Wooster and Wilmington both hit over .275 in set one. Wooster's attack was spread out with Cozzie and Laraway both finishing three kills in the early going. Junior Kora Burill and sophomore Mary-Catherine Werth supported the attacking line with two kills apiece in set one. Sarah Brown accounted for five of Wilmington's 15 set-one kills.

Emelia Mohler and Paige Shouse had 11 kills each for Wilmington. Logan McQuillin turned in the match-high with 19 digs.

Wooster dropped to 5-20, while Wilmington concluded its season at 4-23.

Wooster has one more match left this season, as Case Western Reserve University (14-13) visits Timken Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, Nov. 8. Prior to the match, Wooster will celebrate its senior, Cozzie.
