The College of Wooster women's basketball team had one of their more dominant wins in recent memory, cruising to an 82-52 win over Franciscan University in the team's home opener on Tuesday.
Wooster hadn't won by more than 30 points since 2019 when the team defeated Geneva College 87-51. More so, the Scots are riding their first 2-0 start since the 2017-18 season.
The entire 17-player roster saw minutes and all but four got into the scoring column. SophomoreÂ
Mackenzie Riccitelli led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the court and adding four assists.
First-yearÂ
Pink Sturdivant posted a season-high 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while juniorÂ
Ace Sturdivant had one of her best all-around games, posting nine points, seven rebounds, a game-high seven assists and zero turnovers.
The seven rebounds tied for the team-high with seniorÂ
Ella Biondi.
JuniorÂ
Abby Henegar came off the bench and totaled eight points behind a pair of 3-pointers. SophomoreÂ
Emily Webb also added eight points behind a 3-of-4 shooting performance from the floor.
First-yearÂ
Mya Rivera scored four points and joinedÂ
Hailey Bergosh and
Savannah Weiss in scoring their first collegiate points. Bergosh and Weiss finished with two points.
JuniorÂ
Kylie Parsons and sophomoreÂ
Lynx Lander also got into the scoring column for the first time this season, each scoring two points as well.
The Scots started the game off strong with a 10-0 run and never relinquished the lead. The Sturdivant connection put Wooster in the driver's seat early.
Pink scored the game's first points with a 3-pointer thanks to an assist from Ace. Then, anÂ
Ella Dean steal allowed Pink to return the favor, finding her sister for a 3-pointer of her own.
Franciscan was able to pull within four points by the end of the quarter at 17-13. However, the second quarter saw Riccitelli and Pink score 13 of the team's 18 points to push them ahead 35-21 at halftime.
Wooster led by as many as 37 thanks to its largest scoring run of 15 in the third quarter. Wooster outscored Franciscan (1-2) 34-14. Henegar scored all eight of her points in the quarter, and Riccitelli added 13.
Wooster was impressive getting the ball out quick with 19 fast break points. The bench also outscored Franciscan 33-17.
The Scots outrebounded their opposition 47-39 and committed just 18 turnovers while forcing 26. Wooster shot 41 percent (29-70) to Franciscan's 29 percent (18-63) and found success at the foul line (84 percent) as well as from 3-point range (36 percent).
Next, the Scots will host the Nan Nichols Classic this Friday and Saturday. They will play Mount Aloysius College in the nightcap on Friday.
