NCAC Release
The College of Wooster men's soccer team received plenty of recognition from the conference office on Thursday with four All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections. In addition, senior
Elliot Miller earned Offensive Player of the Year, along with first team honors, and coach
Andy Zidron and assistant
Jack Giloth were recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Junior
Nate Chartrand and sophomore
Connor Shea were named to the second team, while junior
Peter Kalitka earned third team recognition.
Miller becomes the sixth Fighting Scot to be recognized four times as All-NCAC. This year is his first breaking through to the first team and the first time since 2005 Wooster has been recognized with the Offensive Player of the year honor.
The senior led the team with 22 points with eight goals and six assists. At the end of the regular season, he tied for third amongst conference players in goals scored and ranked alone in third for points.
Three Scots reached double digits in points this year, including Shea, who tallied five goals and four assists. A first-time recognition for the sophomore, Shea had a pair of goals in conference play, including in the team's 2-0 win over John Carroll University and the team's 2-2 tie against Ohio Wesleyan University.
Chartrand is another first-time honoree. An anchor for the defense that allowed just 20 goals this season – a vast improvement from the 35 a year ago.
The junior also found the back of the goal twice, in the team's 1-1 tie over Case Western Reserve University and the team's 5-0 win over La Roche University.
Kalitka was honored as a midfielder on the third team, appearing in all 18 games and making 17 starts. His versatility helped the Scots on both sides of the ball.
Finally, for Zidron and GIloth, the coaching staff guided the team to an 11-3-3 record and a No. 3 seed into the NCAC Tournament. The 11 wins were the program's most since 2004 and the first double-digit win season since 2006. It also was the program's first trip to the tournament since 2004 and their fourth overall.
For the other major awards, Denison claimed Midfielder of the Year (
Kameron Kist) and Defensive Player of the Year (
Henri Heyes), while Kenyon's
Jack Commandeur was named Newcomer of the Year.
