Three College of Wooster men's swimmers took part in Saturday's College Swimming Coaches Association of America College National Open Water Championship, which took place at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
First-year
Evan Hasenkampf led the Fighting Scots' trio in the 5k open water swim with a time of 59:01.2. Hasenkampf placed 58th in the field and posted the second-best time among Div. III entries.
Junior
Philipp Drappatz was next, finishing at 1:00:05.9 for 66th. Drappatz had the sixth-best time among Div. III entries. Senior
Will Laubacher rounded out Wooster's entries with a time of 1:04:27.6. Laubacher placed 82nd and within the top-10 of Div. III swimmers.
Participation in the College National Open Water Championship requires an institution's coach to have a current CSCAA membership. Men's entries must achieve a qualifying time between Jan. 1 and the entry deadline. The men's qualifying times are 4:50.00 in the 500 freestyle, 10:00.00 in the 1,000 freestyle, 17:00.00 in the 1,650 freestyle, or 1:04.00 in the 5k.
Wooster is currently on its annual training trip in Florida. The Scots' next dual meet is at Hiram College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.
