Men's Tennis Drops NCAC Match to Wabash

The College of Wooster men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 North Coast Athletic Conference match to Wabash College on Saturday in a match played at Paramount Tennis Club in Medina.

Wabash (11-7, 2-2 NCAC) won the doubles' point by winning two of the three matches. Wooster's (7-7, 1-3 NCAC) lone win came in the second flight as first-year Ian Royse and sophomore Anthony VanOyen battled to victory in a tiebreak, winning 7-6 (2).

Both the No. 1 team of junior Namit Misra and sophomore Arnav Yadav and the No. 3 team of sophomore Bennett Dickerson and junior Walker Wood fell by identical 6-1 scores.

Wooster regrouped for singles action as half the Scots took the first set. However, the Little Giants secured the overall match by winning the other three flights that all finished in straight sets.

Dickerson dropped the fourth singles match by a 6-1, 6-0 score while sophomore Max Stratford fell 6-4, 6-1 in the sixth singles flight. Royse could not match the level from his first set tiebreak and fell 7-6 (1), 6-1 in third singles.

All the remaining matches saw Wabash force a deciding third set. VanOyen lost the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 while Misra followed shortly after with a loss at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 3-6.

Yadav was the last one on the court at No. 2 singles and his match went the distance through a third-set tiebreak. The sophomore picked up the Scots' lone point of the evening with his 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) win.

Wooster continues its three-match homestand Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. match against DePauw University on the new tennis courts.
