Game Recap: Softball |

Scots Walk Off Again For First NCAC Win

A second straight walk-off win gave The College of Wooster softball team its first North Coast Athletic Conference win on Wednesday, as the team split with Ohio Wesleyan University.

Wooster took game one 3-2 in nine innings but fell 8-0 in six innings in game two.

In less than exciting fashion from senior Sarah Lodge's walk-off single against the University of Mount Union, junior Cate Barkdoll got the job done regardless.

With the bases loaded and one out, Barkdoll worked the count full before taking ball four to seal the win in the ninth for the Scots.

Both teams started their scoring early but slowed as the game entered extra innings.

The Battling Bishops scored in the top of the first on a single to left field but the throw in to get the out at home limited the damage.

In the bottom of the inning, Barkdoll tied it with a single to left field. Wooster took a 2-1 lead when junior Emma Hetkey stole home.

Ohio Wesleyan tied it in the third before five straight scoreless innings until Barkdoll's walk-off walk.

Sophomore Tori Conner started and soldiered through six innings, striking out four and allowing just one earned run.

First-year Jillian Meszaros entered in the seventh and pitched three perfect innings, striking out three and claiming her fourth win of the season.

Hetkey, Julia Jennings and Lynnsey Delio each collected a pair of hits for an offense that totaled nine hits.

Game two was forgettable for Wooster. Meszaros, who threw 49 pitches to finish game one, never got comfortable in her start as Ohio Wesleyan (8-20, 3-5 NCAC) scored two runs in four of the six innings.

Offensively, Wooster (9-19, 1-7 NCAC) couldn't string together enough hits to get going. Their best opportunity came in the third getting runners on second and third thanks to a Barkdoll double. However, they did so with two outs and the rally was killed quickly.

Barkdoll had two of Wooster's six hits, as did junior Ella Wolff. Jennings and Hetkey each went 1-for-3.

Next, Wooster travels to Kenyon College on Saturday.
