College of Wooster men's golf sophomore Andrew Carey repeated as a third-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree. The NCAC announced its all-conference team for men's golf on Monday afternoon.
Carey, a sophomore, finished the year with a 75.2 average, the program's second-best since the tournament era started in 1972. He capped the season with a career-best 3-under-par 69 in the third round of the NCAC Championship, which was tied for the fourth-lowest round of the tournament. That helped solidify a top-15 finish at conference for the second straight year for Carey.
Earlier in the year, Carey was a two-time NCAC Athlete of the Week. The sophomore shot an even-par 140 to capture medalist honors at Westfield Insurance Companies Invitational. The 140 was tied for the program's lowest 36-hole tournament score since 1990. He led Wooster to a pair of tournament titles, marking the first time in program history Wooster has won multiple tournament titles in three consecutive seasons. Carey posted three top-five finishes on the season, with the others coming at the Gatorade Collegiate and the Bob Nye Intercollegiate. He had nine rounds of 75 or better out of 20 rounds played.
This was the first year coaches nominated team members for all-conference consideration and voted on them. Previously, all-conference was determined solely based on finish at the conference championship.
