The College of Wooster men's golf team followed up last weekend's win with a 301 in the opening round of the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Tournament en route to a two-day 615. The Fighting Scots tied for second of eight scoring lineups at the par-72, 6,808-yard Country Club of Meadville.
Junior
Jake Cammarata placed sixth with a 2-over-par 146. Cammarata opened the tournament with a collegiate-best 2-under-par 70. He started with four pars before the first of four birdies went down on the par-4, 393-yard 14th hole. Cammarata turned on the back-nine-started round at 1-under-par, then birdied two of the first four holes on the front nine to drop to 3-under-par. Cammarata moved back to 2-under-par with a birdie on the par-4, 415-yard seventh hole, and he finished with consecutive pars. Cammarata went 1-under-par on the front nine on Monday en route to a 2-over-par 74.
Senior
Mark Towns tied for 27th-place at 155. Towns played 16 holes at par or better on Sunday for an opening-day 74. Birdies fell for Towns on the par-4, 366-yard 18th hole and the par-5, 542-yard first hole. Towns birdied No. 1 in both rounds. His strongest round-two stretch started on No. 11, as the senor played Nos. 11-15 at 1-under-par on Monday.
Junior
Andrew Carey was next, tying for 32nd-place at 157. Carey posted a 2-over-par 74 in round one. He played holes 14-3 at 2-under-par, with the birdies coming at the par-4, 375-yard 16th hole and on No. 1. Carey signed for an 83 on Monday. He had a run of five straight holes of par or better on the back nine.
Sophomore
Nunth Khamkhokgruad surged up the leaderboard by 14 places to tie for 37th at 158. Khamkhokgruad's 2-over-par 74 marked Wooster's No. 1 round-two score. The sophomore dropped in back-to-back birdies on the par-3, 194-yard eighth hole and the par-5, 517-yard ninth hole to go 2-under-par on Meadville's front nine. He was 2-under-par from hole No. 14 to the end of the round, which again was a back-nine start. Khamkhokgruad signed for an 84 on Sunday.
Senior
Parth Kirloskar rounded out Wooster's lineup. He shot a 171 to tie for 54th-place. He played 16 holes at par or better for the tournament and dropped in consecutive birdies in the middle of round one.
Of note, Wooster's opening-round 301 is the team's second-lowest score of the year.
Carnegie Mellon University's B team had the low score of 578. Host Allegheny College was the top lineup-scoring team at 589. Allegheny's
Connor Bell rode a 5-under-par 67 on Monday to medalist honors at 3-under-par.
Next, Wooster competes at the Wabash College Invitational, which takes place Oct. 6-7 at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana.
