GROVE CITY, Pa. – The College of Wooster men's tennis team started the season Saturday with a 6-1 win at Grove City College.
Wooster had little issue dealing with the Wolverines, especially in doubles play, sweeping the competition.
Junior
Anthony VanOyen and first-year
Enzo Lopes captured a 6-3 win in the prime No. 1 flight.
Sophomore
Ian Royse and first-year
Andrew Wissman took a dominating 6-1 win in the No. 2 flight, while the No. 3 team of junior
Bennett Dickerson and senior
Walker Wood also won at 6-3.
In singles play, VanOyen and Royse won by the same 6-1, 6-2 score in the first and second flights, respectively.
At No. 3, Lopes, in his first singles match, fought from a set down to collect the 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. Dickerson won at the No. 4 flight, 6-4, 7-5, and Wissman won at the No. 5 flight, 7-5, 6-4, for his first singles win as well.
Grove City's lone point came in the No. 6 flight, as Wood fell 7-5, 6-1.
Next, Wooster will compete in the IGA Regional Tournament at Kalamazoo from Sept. 26-28.
