BUFFALO, N.Y. - A standout performance from junior goalkeeper
Lucy Carlin helped the College of Wooster women's soccer team to a scoreless tie against Buffalo State University in non-conference action on Sunday.
Having made six saves all season, Carlin more than doubled that total with 13 against the Bengals (2-3-2) and recorded her fourth solo shutout of the season.
Sophomore
Annie Henegar sent the ball high over the crossbar for the Scots' first shot of the afternoon in the ninth minute, and senior
Celia Katner followed with a shot that was blocked less than two minutes later. Meanwhile, the Wooster (5-1-1) defense prevented the Bengals from taking their first shot until 15 minutes into the game.
From that point on, Buffalo State kept Carlin busy as the junior made her first save in the 17th minute and added three more throughout the half. First-year
Zoey Martin had Wooster's lone shot on goal in the 39th minute but the Bengal goalie came up with the save.
Carlin found herself under even more pressure in the second half as almost all of the Bengals' shots came on goal. The junior rose to the occasion, doubling up on her save total from the first half and then some. On the offensive half of the field, Henegar had a series of scoring opportunities starting in the 77th minute but the first was pushed wide right and the second was saved. Carlin managed one last save in the final seconds to preserve the clean sheet.
Buffalo State used a pair of goalkeepers between senior
Taylor Clisson and junior
Addy Williams who combined for three saves. Carlin had 13 stops which matched Wooster's team total throughout the first six games of the season and also surpassed the eight saves made in her career up until this point.
Shots taken were 18-13 in favor of Buffalo State, including a hefty 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Bengals also took four corner kicks to Wooster's two.
Wooster begins a three-game homestand on Saturday, taking on Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m. on Carl Dale Field.
