Scots Compete in ONU Invitational

Volleyball takes on Polar Bears, Brits

ADA – The College of Wooster volleyball team competed in the 46th annual Ohio Northern University Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Friday. Unfortunately, they left with a pair of 3-0 losses to the host Polar Bears and Albion College.

In the first match of the invite, the Scots got a little better as the match went along but still couldn't find the answer against the Polar Bears, falling 25-13, 25-16, 25-18.
Ohio Northern took momentum by stringing seven straight points together in the first set to erase an early Wooster lead. With a 10-8 lead, another five-point stretch widened their lead and later, a four-point run sealed the set.

In set two, Wooster failed to string much together. Their longest run was three points, but it was their final points of the set, which cut Ohio Northern's lead to 21-16.

In set three, Ohio Northern jumped out to a 6-0 lead and eventually 11-2 for a lead Wooster could not rebound from. Wooster showed fight turning a 23-12 deficit to 23-17 before Ohio Northern put the match away.

First-year Kennedy Muhlenkamp led the team with 10 assists and two aces. Mary-Catherine Werth and Izzy Cozzie each collected eight digs, while Kora Burill secured six kills. Werth also had a team-high three blocks.

In match two, Wooster trended the opposite direction, falling to Albion 25-16, 25-12, 25-11.

In the first set, Wooster found themselves trailing early at 8-2. Again, they had its best rally late turning a 21-9 deficit to 25-16.

In set two, the teams traded points with an 8-8 tie before Albion started to gain the advantage. At 14-12, Albion would tally 11 straight to take the set.

In the final set, Albion kept its momentum going, leading early at 10-4 and carrying it through to the final.

Erin Ellis's 10 assists were a team-high as were Tamarra Talbert's five kills. Muhlenkamp led the team with eight digs.
