Scots Stay Effective in Shutout of La Roche

Wooster dominates in 5-0 win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The College of Wooster men's soccer team continued its fantastic start to the season, knocking off another non-conference foe in La Roche University on Wednesday, 5-0.

Wooster stays unbeaten at 7-0-2 on the season, while La Roche falls to 3-3-2. The Scots already match last year's season total in wins and is now looking to rival the 2002 team's start, who did not collect a loss until the NCAC Tournament semifinal.

Wooster set the tone early with a goal in the fourth minute. Junior Robert Hillhouse found classmate Griffin Thornton in the box for the one-time score. It was Thornton's second goal and Hillhouse's fourth assist on the year.

After a 1-0 halftime, Wooster scored in quick succession twice, and senior Elliot Miller got in on the scoring.

First, Miller assisted on Nate Chartrand's goal in the 59th minute. For the junior Chartrand, it was his second goal of the year.

Miller then scored 1:18 later, unassisted, for his team-high fourth goal of the season.

The Scots piled it on late against La Roche with another pair of goals almost a minute apart. Starting in the 76th minute, Thornton connected for his second goal off an assist from Will Pope.

The goal gives Thornton his first collegiate multi-goal game, while setting a new career high in goals scored in a season.

Shortly after, junior Riley Intrator scored his second collegiate goal, unassisted, and his first since his first-year campaign.

Wooster outshot La Roche 19-6. La Roche did not record a shot until the second half.

Scots' keeper Eddie Glucksman recorded the win in the start. Sophomore Stefanos Sotiriadis made two saves in the second half.
