Katie Ewig DiNardo's consistent scoring production culminated with The College of Wooster earning a spot in the 1996 NCAA Div. III Field Hockey Championship tournament and the forward capping her career with All-America honors.

While Carey Rose sold Ewig on the College, having a brother attending Ohio Wesleyan University provided the All-American with more connections to fall in love with Ohio. Wooster's Independent Study was another huge draw for Ewig when it came to selecting a college.

As a first-year, Ewig provided instant offense, ranking third on the team with seven goals and 15 points. She elevated the production to team-highs in goals (11) and points (27), while helping the program to a 10-9 record as a sophomore. Ewig's 11 goals landed her second-team AllNorth Coast Athletic Conference honors. Seventeen goals, three assists, and a team-leading 37 points as a junior elevated Ewig to first-team All-NCAC, and she debuted on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association awards as a first-team All-Great Lakes Region selection.

Wooster needed a strong showing in the 1996 Midwest Regional Tournament to earn a spot in the NCAA Div. III Championship field, and Ewig stepped up in a big way. The senior forward passed out three assists and scored in Wooster's 4-0 blanking of DePauw University. Aided by the Midwest Regional title, Wooster was selected for the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history.

Ewig tallied 45 points as a senior, leading the team with 17 goals and 11 assists. She earned All-NCAC honors for the third time. A second all-region certificate followed, and she went on to earn third-team All-America status.

Ewig, who also played lacrosse for a year, ranked second in program history with 124 points and 52 goals upon graduation. She is still one of just four Wooster field hockey players with 50 career goals and still holds top-four rankings in program history in goals and points. Her 45 points as a senior were the fourth-most in program history at the time, and she was the second in program history to score 17 or more goals in a season twice.

"The key to Katie's success was her intensity and quickness to the ball," shared fellow hall of famer Brenda Meese, Wooster's head coach at the time. "She was incredibly consistent at being able to take advantage of any opportunity she had to score, driving to the goal with incredible fierceness. Katie had great stick handling ability and a good nose for the cage."

After graduating from Wooster, Ewig spent some time in the private sector before pursuing a career in education. She spent seven years as a school counselor before moving into administration as an assistant principal. She is in year three as a high school principal, currently working in the Masconomet Regional School District in Massachusetts.

Ewig and her husband, Peter '97, reside in Topsfield, Massachusetts, with their children, Madeline and Ainsley.
