Women have at least top three times in every event

The College of Wooster swimming and diving team returned to competition on Saturday and quickly overwhelmed Hiram College 178-36 (men) and 174-17 (women).

Wooster's women had at least the top three times in every event contested at Saturday's meet. First-year Reese Lucas, sophomore Maggie Layne, sophomore Elizabeth Theobald, and senior Keara Wiley were first to post a top time, doing so with a 2:12.43 in the 200 medley relay. Senior Lacey Mindock was the next first-place finisher for Wooster's women in the meter-facility meet, taking the 800 freestyle at 10:35.75. Junior Rachel Frank followed with the winning time of 2:18.97 in the 200 freestyle.

Senior Patricia Chen went 30.34 to lead the field in the 50 freestyle. Emma Humbert did likewise in the 200 individual medley, stopping the clock at 2:35.68. Theobald's winning 100 butterfly time was 1:10.81, and 1:02.94 marked the winning pace from first-year Elena Sandifer in the 100 freestyle.

Lucas' first individual win came in the 100 backstroke (1:13.07). Humbert doubled up on individual first-place swims with the winning time of 4:50.31 in the 400 freestyle. Layne secured her first top individual finish of the day with a 1:21.29 in the 100 breaststroke before Wiley, Sandifer, Lucas, and Chen went 1:59.08 to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Wooster's men were equally dominant, winning every event that was contested. Wooster's medley relay record team of first-year Hayden Price, senior Boston Sullivan, senior Will Laymon, and senior Callum Glover turned in a 1:47.75 in the 200-meter race.

Junior Philipp Drappatz led off the individual events with the winning time of 9:23.87 in the 800 freestyle. Senior Will Laubacher kept the Wooster winning ways rolling with a 2:04.34 in the 200 freestyle. Next, junior Ethan Neuner went 25.23 to win the 50 freestyle, and that was followed by Price touching first in the 200 individual medley (2:15.77). Junior Chris Caldwell's 173.02 points led the entries on the one-meter diving board, as did senior Matt Kaley's 1:02.45 in the 100 butterfly.

Glover touched at 53.53 in the 100 freestyle for his first individual win of the day. Price scored a second individual and third overall win with a 58.04 in the 100 backstroke. First-year Evan Hasenkampf's time of 4:26.28 ranked first in the 400 freestyle.

Sullivan capped the individual wins with a 1:08.34 in the 100 breaststroke, while Glover, Laymon, Neuner, and Laubacher wrapped up the dual with a 1:38.74 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Wooster's men, which are currently ranked 10th in the region by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association poll committee, are now 5-0 in duals. Wooster's women are 4-1.

Next, Wooster hosts Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Timken Natatorium.
