Senior Salute - Jack Schuller

Schuller is member of cross country and track and field team

Throughout the spring semester we are celebrating our senior student-athletes with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is cross country and track and field's Jack Schuller. Schuller is a biology major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because I really liked the campus environment. I met many of my future teammates and those interactions made Wooster feel like this was the place for me to be.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means being committed and working hard to accomplish your goals, holding yourself to high standards, and being a leader on and off the field.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories include the trip to Indiana for the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships where I broke my personal record by 1:14. Another favorite memory is the spring trip to Myrtle Beach in 2025, which is one of the best trips offered.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is all of the friends that you make, including your teammates, coaches, and trainers.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I participate in many intramural sports, including soccer, basketball, and softball. I am a member of the Jewish Student Organization.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Dennis Rice has made the greatest impact on me. Not only did he convince me that Wooster was the right place for me, but he has always been a great mentor and coach throughout my four years of college. If I ever needed advice, Coach Rice would always be the first person to go to.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Richard Lehtinen in the biology department has impacted my college experience in a positive way. He helped me navigate through academics and gave me the opportunity to go to Trinidad for my Independent Study, which was one of my greatest experiences in college.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am studying the elevational distribution of the golden treefrog, a species of frog native to a mountain known as El Tucuche in Trinidad. To do this, we placed audio recorders at different elevations throughout the mountain, which will pick up the frogs' vocalizations, and allow us to see where they are most commonly found throughout the mountain.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I volunteered at the Wayne County Schools Career Center. There, I tutored students who were working to receive GEDs in mathematics and reading.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Do not panic about the future. Let everything come to you. You do not figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life in a day, so be patient and you will figure it out.
