Men's Golf

Senior Salute - Mark Towns

Towns is a member of men's golf team

Throughout the spring semester we are highlighting our senior Fighting Scots with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is men's golf's Mark Towns. Towns is a psychology major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster because of the great academics, one on one instruction opportunities, and the diverse student body that allows you to connect and learn from individuals from all over the world. This combined with a competitive golf program that is well connected to their base of alumni made Wooster a perfect fit for me to grow both as a person and a student.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means pushing yourself and taking advantage of every opportunity you get through your sport and academics. Being a Fighting Scot means pushing yourself to grow in every way you can while encouraging those around you to do the same.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are the entire experience of the Kravetz Invitational, substitute teaching for Coach Rich Danch's golf class, everything about spring trips, and my hole in one at Wooster Country Club while playing with team alums.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is being a part of such an amazing and caring community filled with incredible individuals.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am the treasurer for the club volleyball team and a representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: I cannot point to one person for a biggest impact. There are too many great professors to choose from.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: All the service workers in Lowry, Knowlton Café and MacLeods Café and all the custodial staff were incredibly kind, understanding, and helpful every year I was here. Shoutout to all of them for taking such great care of us every day.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at the difference in test anxiety as well as performance anxiety in different groups of students sorted by involvement.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Between my first and second year at Wooster I did an APEX TREK program all across the mainland and islands of Greece. The course was on the ancient history of medicine.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Enjoy today and take care of your business. The results in the classroom and on the course will work out if you just love yourself and enjoy the moment.
