The College of Wooster men's golf team placed ninth in a loaded field at Wabash College's Fall Invitational, which took place Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6,904-yard Broadmoor Country Club. Wooster shot a 907 for the three-round tournament, which featured four of the current top-10 teams.
Junior
Jake Cammarata led the Fighting Scots with a 7-over-par 223, which was good for a tie for 30th-place. Cammarata's even-par 72 led Wooster's round-two 296, which is the program's second-best score of the fall. He was 2-under-par at three different points of round two. Cammarata birdied the par-4, 374-yard 16th hole to get to 2-under-par for the first time, then was back there when a birdie dropped on the par-5, 509-yard 18th hole. Upon turning back to the front nine, Cammarata birdied the par-3, 158-yard fourth hole for his fourth birdie of the round. Cammarata had four birdies in round one, which saw him shoot 2-under-par on the back nine. He birdied No. 18 in all three rounds of the tournament.
Sophomore
Nunth Khamkhokgruad was next, tying for 38th with a three-round 226. Khamkhokgruad opened with back-to-back 73s. He was at 2-under-par midway through the second round. That round started for Khamkhokgruad on No. 12, which he birdied. The sophomore went 3-under-par on Broadmoor's par-5 holes in round two, thanks to dropping in a birdie on the 536-yard ninth hole. His score reached 2-under-par with a birdie on the par-4, 414-yard second hole.
Junior
Andrew Carey finished at 229 to tie for 51st. Carey's 1-under-par 71 marked Wooster's low round for the tournament and it came in the finale. Carey played 15 holes at par or better in the third round, including his first eight. He moved to 2-under-par for the round with a birdie on No. 18, and was back at 2-under-par when a birdie dropped on the par-4, 422-yard sixth hole. Carey played 14 holes at par or better in round two to help the Scots to the 296. He turned at 3-over-par in round one, with the lone birdie coming on No. 12.
Sophomore
Max Shulman tied for 70th with a 235. Shulman's top round was the third, where he signed for a 77. Shulman played Broadmoor's front nine at 3-over-par between rounds two and three. Shulman's second round saw a flurry of birdies at the finish, with three over his last five holes. In all, Shulman dropped in five birdies in round two.
First-year
Arnav Choudhary rounded out the lineup and tied for 76th at 237. Choudhary was a key in Wooster's middle-round 296 with a 3-over-par 75. Choudhary's strong finish secured the 75, as the first-year birdied No. 1, then scored a par on the par-4, 433-yard 10th hole. His round started strong, as a birdie on No. 12, which was his second hole, had the first-year at 1-under par. Choudhary moved back to 1-under-par with a birdie on the par-5, 567-yard 17th hole.
Senior
Mark Towns competed as an individual and tied for 57th with a 231. Towns had three straight 77s, made six birdies for the tournament, and played 37 holes at par or better.
No. 6 Emory University shot 30-under-par to win the 15-team tournament by 12 strokes. Emory's
Kevin Mu was the medalist with a 12-under-par 204.
Next, Wooster wraps up its fall season at the Cleveland Cup Invitational, which takes place on Oct. 19 at Grey Hawk Golf Club and Oct. 20 at Pine Hills Golf Club.
