The College of Wooster women's soccer team took momentum early and defended its lead for nearly 80 minutes on Saturday and took a 1-0 win over DePauw University in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
Â
Wooster scored the game's lone goal in the 10th minute thanks to juniorÂ
Josie Bencic. The Scots were awarded a free kick near midfield and got the ball near the right post where Bencic connected.
Â
It was Bencic's team-leading sixth goal of the year and her third in as many conference games.
Â
Wooster's defense remained up to the task the rest of the way. Wooster's offense still outshot DePauw in both halves and 17-10 for the game.
Â
Senior
Lucy Carlin made three saves for her fifth consecutive shutout, having not allowed a goal since the team's Sept. 22 game. Her counterpartÂ
Aubree Empie made five.
Â
Wooster improves to 8-3-2 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC, having outscored conference opponents 5-0 though the first three games. Meanwhile, DePauw has been involved in a shutout in all but one game this season as they move to 6-6-1 overall and suffer their first NCAC loss to move to 1-1-1.
Â
Next, Wooster will put their perfect NCAC record on the line when they travel to Denison University on Saturday.
