Scots Suffer Tough Conference Loss

Wooster falls to John Carroll, 3-1

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The College of Wooster men's soccer team could not find much room to breathe on Wednesday in a 3-1 defeat to John Carroll University in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Wooster's lone goal knotted the game at 1-1 late in the first half. Nate Chartrand found Connor Shea in the box, whose shot hit off the left post and off a defender to roll across the line.

However, just over two minutes later and with 30 seconds left in the half, John Carroll capitalized on a free kick, which came right outside the penalty area. Louis Roseberry's shot rolled past Wooster's wall and past a diving effort from Eddie Glucksman.

That gave the Blue Streaks a 2-1 lead at halftime. Their first goal came off another free kick but from midfield. It put them in a prime position to score in the 15th minute, which Nic Slagle connected on. The ball crept deep in the goal box, which presented an open look off the left foot of Slagle.

In the second half, Wooster looked for the equalizer, coming close a couple times including on a blocked shot from Aris Christodoulou. Yet John Carroll's Harley Forkins scored the team's third goal unassisted in the 81st minute. He used his speed to get down the field and then made a move late to make it a 3-1 game.

John Carroll outshot Wooster 16-9. Wooster had seven corner kick opportunities but could not connect on any of them. Glucksman ended with three saves.

Shea's goal was his sixth on the year, good for second on the team.

John Carroll improves to 6-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC putting them in a prime position to earn a spot in the upcoming NCAC Tournament.

Wooster moves to 7-6-2 and 1-3-2 in conference play as their road gets even tougher to extend its season.

With two games left, Wooster returns for its final home game and to honor its seniors on Saturday when they welcome DePauw University (9-3-1, 2-2-1 NCAC) to Carl Dale Field.
