The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell into an early deficit but two second half goals gave the Scots a 2-1 win over DePauw University in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Â
In a senior day home finale, Wooster found themselves trailing from the eighth minute. Deep into scoring territory,Â
Roman Girandola's pass led to the head ofÂ
Ante Basan who connected to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Â
That score remained through halftime as both teams played about even. DePauw (10-4-1, 2-3-1 NCAC) outshot the Scots 8-7 but Wooster held the corner kick advantage, 4-3.
It wasn't until the 57th minute Wooster (8-6-2, 2-3-2 NCAC) found the equalizer. After being awarded a penalty kick,Â
Aris Christodoulou took the shot, but it was saved by keeper
Sam Ortner.Â
Â
However, seniorÂ
Robert Hillhouse had the awareness to come in and scoop it up, scoring on the rebound for his eighth score of the year.
Â
With momentum on its side, Wooster kept the pressure on until hitting what would be the game winner in the 71st minute. SophomoreÂ
JJ Porter was fed a pass from seniorÂ
Griffin Thornton and made his shot count to make it a 2-1 game.
That score held despite another close half where DePauw once again held the advantage in shots 8-7. DePauw outshot Wooster 16-14 in the game, while both teams had eight shots on goal.
Â
Wooster keeper
Stefanos Sotiriadis made the start and collected a career-high seven saves.
Â
Next, the Scots finish the regular season at the current conference best and eight-ranked nationally Kenyon College (12-3, 5-1NCAC) on Saturday.
