Women's Soccer Claims First NCAC Title Since 2010

Scots defeat John Carroll, 1-0

The College of Wooster women's soccer team were able to celebrate after claiming the North Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday following a 1-0 win against John Carroll University.

Even with one conference game remaining, the Scots wrapped up its first conference title since 2010 and its sixth all-time. Saturday's win, plus the 1-1 result between Kenyon College and DePauw University, allowed Wooster to celebrate early as their 16 conference points won't be surpassed.

Wooster (10-3-3, 5-0-1 NCAC) picked up its 10th win of the season and moved to a 5-0-1 mark in the NCAC. The win also gives them home field advantage through the NCAC Tournament, as they will make their 13th appearance. John Carroll (4-8-4, 2-2-2 NCAC) moves to fifth place in the conference, still in the hunt for a tournament berth.

Wooster got off to a quick start on Saturday, scoring in the ninth minute. Senior Bella Crompton sent a free kick off the right post, where her classmate Julia Struck was able to score off the rebound.

For Struck, it was her third goal of the year, and for Crompton, her second assist.

Wooster outshot John Carroll 9-4 in the first half, before John Carroll's urge to score gave them an 8-5 advantage in the second half. The Blue Streaks' best chance to tie the game came in the 70th minute, but an offside call wiped away the potential game-tying goal.

The Scots wound up outshooting John Carroll 14-12 in the game. Both teams took four corner kicks.

Wooster keeper Lucy Carlin made four saves, while her counterpart, Madison Skeese, made two.

Next, Wooster will wrap up its regular season on Saturday when they welcome Kenyon (7-1-7, 3-0-3 NCAC) to Carl Dale Field for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
