Scots Open NCAC Play With Draw

Men’s soccer finds equalizer in 1-1 result versus Denison

Another battle between The College of Wooster men's soccer team and Denison University resulted in a 1-1 draw at Carl Dale Field on Saturday in what was the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both squads.

The teams played almost the entire first half scoreless before Lowen Jamison connected on the game's first score in the 45th minute. Jamison scored following a scrum after a corner kick as he and teammate Liam Walsh each had a look, but it went Jamison's way off his foot.

Not too long before that, Denison thought they had their first score behind the foot of Kaden Kist. Kist directed the ball towards Wooster's net, but it deflected off a defender, and keeper Eddie Glucksman needed to make a diving attempt to keep the ball out of the goal.

Wooster (6-3-1, 0-0-1 NCAC) found the equalizer in the 69th minute off the foot of JJ Porter thanks to a one-two pass from Robert Hillhouse to Connor Shea, who then found Porter.

It was the second goal of the year for Porter, who got the start on Saturday.

Both teams had opportunities to claim victory, but neither could make much happen the rest of the way. Denison (4-1-4, 0-0-1 NCAC) outshot Wooster 13-8 and could not find more success across their nine corner kicks.

Glucksman ended with five saves, while his counterpart, Alex Provost, finished with two.

It was another hard-fought game for both programs, who played to a 1-1 tie during its lone regular season game last year as well. Both will earn a point in the NCAC standings.

Next, the Scots will host Oberlin College (1-8-1, 0-1 NCAC) on Wednesday.
