It was another close battle between The College of Wooster men's soccer team and Oberlin College on Wednesday. Instead of going Wooster's way like last year, Oberlin came out on top with a 2-1 win.
Despite outshooting the Yeomen 29-5, Wooster had few clean looks, while Oberlin capitalized on its minimal chances.
Â
For instance, Oberlin's best opportunity to score came in the 41st minute after being awarded a free kick in their offensive zone.Â
Christopher Pienca took a direct shot which bounced off the inside of the right post and eventually made its way in.
Oberlin would take that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Wooster hit the equalizer early in the second half after being awarded a penalty kick after a foul near the top of the goal box.
Â
Aris Christodoulou connected on the opportunity in the 52nd minute, as Oberlin keeperÂ
Lukas Verling guessed right but was a hair late.
Â
Wooster was unable to celebrate for long as Oberlin wiped away their momentum less than a minute later.Â
Walter Gomez-Torres's shot near the left post found its way in and just like that Oberlin had the lead again 30 seconds later.
Â
The Scots went on full attack from there but still could not get past the Yeomen defense. Wooster had 19 shots in the second half and four corner kick opportunities.
Â
KeeperÂ
Eddie Glucksman made just one save, while his counterpart Verling made seven stops.
Â
Wooster drops to 6-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the NCAC. Oberlin breaks a six-game skid, improving to 2-8-1 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.
Â
This was another battle between these two teams. Last year, Wooster crawled back from a 1-0 deficit at halftime and hit the game winning goal with minutes to spare in a 2-1 win.
Wooster returns to NCAC action Saturday with a trip to Ohio Wesleyan University (2-4-4, 1-0 NCAC), who defeated Wabash College 1-0 on Wednesday.
