A Road Victory To Kick Off NCAC Action

Women’s soccer defeats Ohio Wesleyan, 2-0

DELAWARE – The College of Wooster women's soccer team got off to a great start within North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, defeating Ohio Wesleyan University, 2-0, on the road.

After a scoreless first half, Wooster got on the board early in the 65th minute thanks to an Annie Henegar connection with Josie Bencic. Henegar found Bencic with a pass off a header with Bencic near the front of the goal and ready to score.

Julia Struck put the Bishops away with a penalty kick goal in the 81st minute. Struck was fouled just inside the top of the box and was awarded a successful score.

Bencic is now tied with Henegar and Bella Crompton with the team lead of four goals on the year. Henegar's third assist tops the team as well.

Struck's goal was the second of her season.

Wooster made the most of its chances despite being outshot 16-12. Both teams took five corner kicks.

Senior Lucy Carlin made six saves, as Carlin and the Scots have not allowed a goal in three consecutive contests.

Wooster improves to 6-3-2 on the year and takes three points in the conference. Ohio Wesleyan falls to 3-5-3 and 0-1 in the NCAC.

An always difficult opponent for the Scots, Wooster collects their first victory over the Battling Bishops since 2018. The two teams tied the past two years, including in the season finale last year.

Next, Wooster returns home for a pair of NCAC contests in the week, starting Tuesday against Oberlin College (3-4-2, 0-0-1 NCAC).
