Price Lowers Own Record at Kenyon Fast Chance Meet

First-year goes 49.76 in the 100 backstroke

First-year Hayden Price lowered his own 100 backstroke school record to help lead a contingent from The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams during the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational inside the Steen Aquatic Center.

Price won the 100 backstroke event in a program-record time of 49.76, improving by 0.04 seconds upon his previous school record set back during Wooster Invitational in December. The first-year also climbed the rankings in the 100 individual medley, posting the sixth-fastest time in program history of 53.86 to finish fifth in the event.

Three other Scots added their name or improved their positioning on the program top-10 list between senior Emma Humbert, senior Keara Wiley, and senior Callum Glover. Humbert actually made moves in two events, the 100 individual medley and the 200 backstroke. In a 100 individual medley time trial, she finished second in a career-best 1:02.16 for the eighth-fastest time in program history. Humbert also finished sixth in the 200 backstroke in a career-best 2:10.06 to land in 10th on the program rankings. One additional career-best came in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:15.24.

Wiley cracked the 100 individual medley top-10 on the heels of Humbert, landing in 10th overall in a career-best 1:03.15 to finish fourth in the event. The Scots loved the 100 individual medley, as Glover's program top-10 time also came in that event, a career-best mark of 53.57 for fifth in program history.

Both Wiley and Glover posted additional event top-10 finishes as Wiley came in 10th in the 50 freestyle in 24.68 and Glover placed seventh in the 100 freestyle in 46.21.

Three other members of the women's team posted a combined six personal records, led by a trio of them from sophomore Maggie Layne. Layne posted career-best times of 2:07.57 in the 200 freestyle, 5:31.81 in the 500 freestyle and 18:53.84 in the 1,650 freestyle to place fifth, seventh, and third, respectively. Senior Lacey Mindock had a pair of personal records herself with 2:26.28 in the 200 butterfly and 2:38.65 in the 200 breaststroke for a pair of sixth-place finishes. Junior Rachel Frank was the runner-up in the 1,650 free in a career-best 17:54.47.

Seniors Bailey Nickols and Hadley Reckard capped off their collegiate careers with a top-10 finish each. Nickols finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.96 while Reckard took eighth in the 500 free in 5:43.49. First-year Elena Sandifer also swam in the 1,650 free and followed up her teammates with a fourth-place finish in 18:54.88.

On the men's side, sophomores Eli Tansey and Ethan Towle went seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200 freestyle (1:53.67) and the 100 individual medley (59.19).

Humbert, Mindock, Wiley and Reckard swam in the only relay action on the afternoon for the Scots, combining for a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.83.
