Scots Split To Conclude Spring Trip

A 4-1 trip moves men's tennis to 7-2

The College of Wooster men's tennis team went 1-1 in its final two matches of its spring trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina, going 4-1 in the trip and improving to 7-2 on the season.

On Thursday, the team dropped a close 4-3 match to Carleton College (10-2). The Scots could not secure the doubles point, which proved crucial after taking three singles wins.

Unfortunately, Carleton secured its four points before Wooster collected its three wins. Enzo Lopes put Wooster on the board first with a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 3 flight.

Andrew Wissman came back to win his match in the No. 5 flight after a long super tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10).  Finally, Anthony VanOyen won the No. 1 flight with a 6-4, 7-6 (1) win over No. 34-ranked Akshay Garapati.

On Friday, the Scots concluded its trip with a 7-0 win over Lawrence University, winning every match across doubles and singles play.

VanOyen claimed the win at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Ian Royse took a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, while Lopes did the same by reversing the sets, 6-0, 6-2.

Bennett Dickerson took a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4 flight. Wissman took a clean 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5, and Walker Wood won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 flight.

In doubles, VanOyen and Lopes fought until the end for a 7-6 (6) victory. Royse and Dickerson got the 6-0 win in the No. 2 flight, and Wissman and Wood claimed a 6-1 vicotry in the No. 3 flight.

When Wooster returns home they will welcome Wittenberg University for a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on March 28.
